Matisyahu and Wu Tang’s Remedy have released a new collaborative single and video, “The Fathers Live.” The song arrived early today, timed with Hanukkah beginning this evening. The track is described as an “anthemic ode to their Jewish pride and the fight against the terrifying rise of anti-Semitism. The tune features appearances from multiple celebrities who have also been outspoken against anti-Semitism and hate.

The video was shot in a synagogue in New York; the musicians aim was to capture something “jubilant and joyful, humans coming together in song, dance and belief, pushing past the terror and is, aesthetically, a clear reminder that out of darkness comes light.”

Remedy, whose grandmother and grandfather were both Holocaust survivors, was not only the first white rapper to be affiliated with Wu-Tang Clan but the first Jewish rapper. His track, “Never Again,” which speaks to overcoming hate and fear, is featured on the rap collective’s compilation The Swarm Vol. 1.

In a statement Matisyahu said:

I wanted to bring together a bunch of strong Jews from different backgrounds in a Shul in Brooklyn, and just vibe out to the song in a Jewish setting.

Remedy added:

Matis had the vision of us all in a Shul and the video worked out beautifully. We’re delivering a message of wisdom from our forefathers, of dreams and aspirations, and self-determination. We want the truth to get out.

Matisyahu’s Festival of Light tour kicks off at Dallas, TX’s Granada Theater tomorrow.
