The Wood Brothers’ Oliver Wood announced today a string of September tour dates with his solo project the Oliver Wood Trio. The group is set to make seven stops, spanning from Sept. 1 to Sept. 9 – with group members Ted Pecchio and Jano Rix.
Fellow Nashville, Tenn., native and Americana musician JP Ruggieri will support Wood and his band mates–who last performed in January–for four of the shows: Decatur, Ala. on Sept. 5, Murfreesboroboro, Tenn. on Sept. 6, Atlanta on Sept. 7 and the tour closer in Millboro, Va. on Sept. 9. Wood released his debut solo album Always Smilin’ in May 2021, which held contributions from folk and roots-rock giants like Susan Tedeschi, Tyler Greenwell and Wood Brothers’ Rix.
“I’m super excited to announce that I’ll be opening some shows for my good friend and musical hero @oliverwoodmusic this September,” Ruggeiri wrote in a Twitter post announcing the tour.
The April release of The Wood Brothers’ new album Heart Is The Hero brought two corresponding U.S. spring and summer tours in the books. Wood’s September run, cushioned between a freshly announced 2023 Wood Brothers fall tour, will kick off at Shoe Fest in Manteno, Ill. From there the trio makes its way through Alabama and Tennessee before a nostalgic return to where Wood began his career in Atlanta, circling back to Tennessee again for Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion and capping off at the aforementioned Sept. 9 show in Millboro, Va.
Tickets go on sale Friday, July 14 at 10 a.m. local time at oliverwoodmusic.com.
