A new documentary entitled Grapplin’ Greg: The Story of Greg Bell is set to premiere at The Palace Theatre in Albany, N.Y., on Dec. 17. The new movie presents the audience with a glimpse into the life of Greg Bell of Guthrie/Bell Productions, a leading figuring in the Albany, N.Y. music community for three decades. 

Bell’s storied career began in the early ‘90s. It inevitably led to the success of many new bands from the region, who found stage time due to Bell’s perseverance as a promoter and belief in making Albany, N.Y. music mecca. 

Grapplin’ Greg: The Story of Greg Bell focuses on how Bell fell in love with live music and began booking small gigs for friends and in time, led to working with larger venues, such as The Palace Theatre and Albany Armory.

The documentary’s title is derived from the Eastbound Jesus song, which tells the story of Bell embodying a wrestler and fighting a bear that attempts to start a drum circle at his beloved Bellstock event. The song is the musician’s attempt to capture Bell’s storied career.

As a bonus, The Palace Theater event slated for mid-December will include a live performance by Eastbound Jesus, who will grace the stage in celebration of Bell. Tickets for the documentary premiere on Dec. 17 are on sale now and can be purchased here.
