On Saturday, The String Cheese Incident kicked off the first weekend of their international run at Jewel Paradise Cove in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. The band started the event with a throwback set that played homage to their show from Alfred’s Ocean Palace in Negril, Jamaica on May 25, 1998.
The set kicked off with the tropic tune “Lester Had a Coconut” before they broke into a three-track jam of “Little Hands” > “Lively Up Yourself” > “Dudley’s Kitchen.” The performance of Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself” marked the first time they played the track since July 29, 2006. Next came “How Mountain Girls Can Love” and “Got What He Wanted” > “Mouna Bowa.” They closed the first set with “Black Clouds” into another Marley staple “Stir it Up” back into “Black Clouds.”
The second set continued to follow in the Alfred’s Ocean Palace show’s footsteps and started with “Lonesome Fiddle Blues.” They played “Missin’ Me” into Miles Davis’ “So What” into “‘Round The Wheel.” The last time String Cheese played the Davis track was back on July 12, 2007. They broke the throwback mold after “‘Round The Wheel” and closed with “Let’s Go Outside” and “Miss Brown’s Teahouse.”
The String Cheese Incident encored with “Joyful Sound” > “Rumble.” Find the full setlist below.
