Bob Weir appeared on the Nov. 22 episode of Ezra Koenig’s ‘Time Crisis’ radio show/podcast. Koenig hosts the show with Jake Longstreth, who plays guitar in the Weir role in the Grateful Dead cover band Richard Pictures.
Considering Longstreth’s love of the Dead and Koenig’s tangential connections to them through Vampire Weekend, the band is discussed with some frequency on the show. The appearance began with Koenig and Longstreth discussing Richard Pictures with Weir, before Koenig notes that the “primary” reason for his appearance is to discuss American Beauty‘s 50th anniversary. “It’s an unimpeachably excellent record,” said Koenig during the show.

November 25, 2020 at 11:13 amGoing to Dead shows in the late 80’s, and loving every single aspect of it! Seriously! Except one thing, and it still grinds me to this day. And that is people speaking in lyrics. It seems to be a Deadhead phenomenon. I understand the profound impact lyrical content can have on an individual, and am right there with you. But reciting them in conversation, and taking huge liberties on having them situationally apply to the context of the conversation is, I’m sorry, super lame. So I will end this rant with, “And it’s bigger than a drive-in movie,
Bigger than a drive-in movie.”

November 25, 2020 at 4:31 pmQuoting another is usually seen as high praise. And the DEAD are certainly liked by a wide variety of people as to be quoted. Katy Turr quotes Phish all the time on her news show and The Bible along with Ben Franklin are quoted enough. Some nice cool quotes in DEAD lyrics. Never mind the DEAD covering others is quoting them. “The great thing is the thing of being able to see things through many points of view. That’s enlarging. I mean, it saves you from ultimately from the boredom of having one point of view, like being locked in a room with nothing but your own point of view, your own references.” – Jerry Garcia
