Trey Anastasio welcomed multiple special guests to the stage at his gig at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Friday night. During the first set, Michael Franti joined the band for a version of Bob Marley’s ‘Small Axe.’ Then Franti remained on stage as fellow Spearhead member Radioactive emerged along with David Hidalgo, Steve Berlin and Conrad Lozano from Los Lobos (both bands opened the show). The fifteen musicians then tore into a version of Sly & The Family Stone’s ‘I Want To Take You Higher.’ Later, during the second set, Page McConnell played on ‘First Tube’ and the set-closing ‘Bug.’
Earlier in the evening Anastasio joined Spearhead for ‘Sometimes,’ and Los Lobos for ‘Not Fade Away>Bertha’ (with Chris Kuroda offering a bonus turn on lights during the latter song). In addition while rumors persisted that a Oysterhead reunion might take place at the Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade shows at the Vegas House of Blues, this did not occur. Although Stewart Copeland was on hand and took the stage, Anastasio did not perform.
Trey Anastasio will open two-night stand at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO this evening.
