NEW ORLEANS – Saxophonist Martin Fierro (Zero) joined Lush on stage last night at Mamas Blues. Lush is a side project featuring keyboardist Bernie Worrell, guitarist Grant Green Jr., saxophonist Jessica Lurie and drummer Dale Fanning of Living Daylights, bassist Brad Houser of Critters Buggin and vocalist Reggie Watts of Maktub. Fierro sat in for a cover of Sly & the Family Stones If You Want Me to Stay. The show featured mostly funk, with Fanning injecting jungle grooves throughout.
Both Lurie and Fanning will take part in the East Meets West Allstars show this Saturday at the Howlin Wolf. Representing the East will be DJ Logic, Eric Krasno, Joe Russo, Marco Benevento, Sam Kininger and Topaz, while the West features Brian Jordan, Carlos Washington, Cecil Peanut Daniels, Fareed Haque, Kai Eckhardt, Robert Walter, Mike Dillon and Skerik, among others.
