Officials in New Yorks Suffolk County have denied the permit for the Field Day Music Festival, which is slated for June 7 and 8 at Enterprise Park at Calverton, in Calverton, NY. The decision was made when Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller said his force would not be able to handle the crowd of 50,000. Without a permit, the festival cannot take place, although it is not yet determined whether or not a permit can be obtained in the coming days (a similar situation arose prior to last years Grateful Dead Reunion at Alpine Valley, but permits were eventually granted). The festival line-up includes The Beastie Boys, Beck, The Roots and Particle, among several others.
Enterprise Park is the same site where Bonnaroo NE is scheduled to take place over the weekend of August 8 10. Permits have not yet been issued for that event either, although event organizer Rick Farman of Superfly Presents says this is normal. The way the system is set up in the state of New York, permits are generally not granted until hours before the event. The fact that we dont have the permit is par for the course. Theres nothing unusual about it and were confident that well fulfill all of the requirements to obtain a permit.
Concert promoters for the Field Day Music Festival were not available for comment.
