Govt Mule has finally made the big announcement. The band confirmed today that Andy Hess will official join the group as its permanent bass player. Its been just over three years since the passing of original bassist Allen Woody. Since then, the group has toured with a cast of rotating bassists that has included Hess, George Porter Jr., Oteil Burbridge and Dave Schools, among others. We’ve been fortunate to have many amazing bass players tour and record with us,’ says guitarist Warren Haynes. ‘When we played with Andy Hess – it felt like a band.’
‘It’s a real honor and privilege to play with Gov’t Mule,’ says Hess. ‘Allen’s are some big shoes to fill, but I am going to try to put my own stamp on it. I am very excited about being a part the band.’ Andys past experience includes work with The Black Crowes, John Scofield, Joan Osborne and Britney Spears.
Govt Mule rounded out by drummer Matt Abts and keyboardist Danny Louis – will hit the road next month, starting on October 3 at The Backyard in Austin, TX. The quartet will tour in support of The Deepest End, a live package featuring a double-CD and DVD, due October 7 on ATO Records. In total there are 32 songs included, all recorded on May 3 at the Saenger Theater in New Orleans, with several guest performers such as Jack Casady, Jason Newsted, Les Claypool and Paul Jackson.
Mule will appear on Late Night with Conan OBrien on Wednesday October 8. For the complete fall schedule, visit www.mule.net.
