Next week, Papa Grows Funk will resume its Monday night residency at New Orleans Maple Leaf Bar. The group had been playing there regularly on Mondays until Hurricane Katrina struck. As a result, the band has been gigging out of state but will return to Louisiana for a show this Friday at Downtown Alive in Lafayette (and then pick it up at the Maple Leaf on November 14, with an earlier, 9PM showtime due to curfew). One band member who may miss some of the Monday night gigs is sax player Jason Mingledorff, whose roof was damaged by the storm and has temporarily relocated to Tampa.
