Last night Widespread Panic opened the third act in its ongoing play at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, welcoming guitarist Jimmy Herring onboard as George McConnells official replacement. Instead of offering Herring an official introduction, the group allowed its music to speak for itself, filing onstage like any normal performance. The groups opening number, Pleas, also seemed to reference Herrings arrival (Go, put your work clothes on/Go and leave your mark) and (They tell me it takes sorrow, boy/To help you feel the joy/They say it takes poverty/To let you love a toy/Now you can’t have the good/Until you’ve shared the bad). Like most nights on the groups summer tour, longtime Widespread Panic producer John Keane performed with the group at various points throughout its set, dividing his time between pedal steel and electric guitar. Widespread Panic will return to Radio City Music Hall tonight .
