Gusters Ryan Miller will make a rare out of band appearance at San Franciscos Independent on September 30. A benefit for Rouge Wave drummer Pat Spurgeon, who is in need of a kidney transplant, the all-star gig will also feature Rouge Wave, Death Cab for Cutie/The Postal Services Ben Gibbard, Nada Surfs Matthew Caws, John Vanderslice and Daniel Handler, who will MC the event. Spurgeon was born with one kidney, which recently failed. He had his first transplant in 1993 and, after 13 years, it has started to deteriorate leaving the drummer on dialysis since April. Provided a donor is found, both Spurgeon and his donor will incur tremendous costs. Rouge Wave will perform tonight at Birmingham, ALs Bottle Tree with Jason Collett and foreign born.
