In our 2005 Year in Review, Mike Gordon cited Asheville, NCs Toubab Krewe as his favorite new band. Since then the former Phish bassist has caught the African/jam-act on several occasions and, over the weekend, joined the group onstage for the first time at Burlington, VTs Nectars. Gordon emerged for a couple of songs during the groups sold-out performance, including Maliba’ and ‘Bamana Niya.’ Though Saturdays performance was a hometown gig for Gordon, the evenings other special guest, Lamine Soumano, traveled all the way from Mali to play guitar with Toubab Krewe. The group will perform at Baltimore, MDs 8×10 on November 29 with John Browns Body.
