For its New Years Eve show at Utica, New York’s Electric Company, the Ryan Montbleau Band decked out the venue to look like Studio 54 and offered music from the heyday of the fabled New York nightclub. The band took the stage in vintage powder blue tuxes and ruffled shirts for three sets that balanced the groups originals with covers from the late 70s. Opening the show with Walter Murphy’s ‘A Fifth of Beethoven,’ the evening also included covers of Rose Royce’s ‘Car Wash,’ A Taste of Honey’s ‘Boogie Oogie Oogie’ and The Time’s ‘Jungle Love’ which the group played shortly after the midnight countdown. In what proved to be a somewhat common occurrence, the Montbleau Band also quoted James Brown songs throughout the evening and in fact throughout its entire New Year’s run.
TheRyan Montbleau Band returns to the stage tomorrow night in the Virgin Islands for the first show of its USVI tour at Paradise Point in St. Thomas.
