Joseph ‘Zigaboo’ Modeliste was the founding drummer for The Meters until the band dispersed in 1979. When the members came together a decade later and reformed as the funky Meters, Russell Batiste moved behind the kit. Next week the two drummers will share the bill and also the stage during a show that will benefit the New Orleans South African Connection. This organization is a non-profit 501© 3 organization, comprised of business, civic, community and entertainment industry leaders, both in New Orleans and in the Republic of South Africa. Our unique partnership has allowed us to produce special events in the City of New Orleans and the Republic of South Africa, simultaneously for the past three years. The performance which will take place at 316 Board of Trade Place in New Orleans, will bring together: Zigaboos Funk Revue, Russell Batiste & Friends, Rebirth Brass Band and Shaka Zulu and Zulu Connection with Troy Trombone Shorty Andrews. Over the course of the night, Modeliste and Batiste will perform together and additional intra-band cross-pollination is expected.
