A handful of electronic and jam-oriented groups converged in Northern California over the weekend for the third annual Symbiosis Gathering. The four day event included a mix of national and international touring acts, including a rare US appearance by Hallucinogen in Dub, Zilla, Lotus, EOTO, Chris Berry & Panjea featuring Michael Kang, Bassnectar, a live PA set by Pnuma, The Zoopy Show, Dubconscious and BLVD featuring Souleye, among many others. In addition, Steve Kimock anchored the Symbiotic Orchestra, a unique ensemble featuring Jamie Janover, String Cheese Incident’s Michael Travis taking a stab at bass, Delta Nove’s The Viking and members of the Glitch Mob cycling on-and-off the stage. After venturing into the world of live performance through his collaborations with The Bays and the Disco Biscuits, DJ/producer Simon Posford invited out Michael Kang for the majority of its set, beginning with a choice version of his ‘Gamma Goblins.’ Zilla, who are profiled in a recent site interview, also brought out cello-wiz Rena Jones during its performance.
