The Raconteurs—featuring the quartet of Jack White, Brendan Benson, bassist Jack Lawrence and drummer Patrick Keeler—have shared two new tracks, marking their first newly released music in a decade, following up the band’s 2008 album Consolers of the Lonely.
The two tracks, which are taken from The Raconteurs’ studio sessions for an upcoming album set for release sometime next year, each feature lead vocals from one of the group’s two main singer-songwriters/guitarists, with White heading up “Sunday Driver” and Benson taking lead on “Now That You’re Gone.” The only physical release of the tracks was delivered as a 7″ single today as part of Third Man Records’ Vault package #38, which celebrates 10 years of Consolers.
The band has also shared two videos for the tracks, both of which were shot in the past two weeks. “Sunday Driver” was directed by Steven Sebring at his Sebring Revolution Media Lab in NYC—providing some impressive 3-D imaging and video of the band members—while “Now That You’re Gone” was helmed by Dikayl Rimmasch and stars Benson and his bandmates along with burlesque performer Gia Genevieve. Watch both videos below.
As a press release notes, White recently spoke with Mojo Magazine about the upcoming Raconteurs LP, saying the band is “knee deep in the trenches” of the album process. “We have a vast amount of genre-pushing songs that bridge the gap between Detroit and Nashville rock and roll,” White says. “The album sounds like a World War. It’s great to be co-writing songs with Brendan Benson again, the man is a song craftsman.”
