The High Hawks may be sophomores, but they are not slumping on Mother Nature’s Show.

The supergroup consisting of Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman on guitar, Railroad Earth’s Tim Carbone on fiddle and guitar, guitarist Adam Greuel of Horseshoes & Hand Grenades and Great American Taxi’s Chad Staehly, Brian Adams and Will Trask on keyboards, bass and drums, respectively, make music as diverse as their various day jobs would suggest on their second LP.

The band calls Mother Nature’s Show a “musical travelogue” and the description is apt as the 12 tracks traverse the American musical landscape from the rural ranch land that sits under “Diamond Sky” to the beach – Jimmy Buffett must be around here somewhere! – the players find “Somewhere South” to the swampland that Robbie Robertson made a career of imagining on “Backwater Voodoo” before landing on Bourbon Street to “Shine Your Blues.”

At its core, however, the High Hawks are essentially a country-rock band as demonstrated by the swaggering title track; the bipolar, Asleep at the Wheel-inspired “Top Shelf, Rock Bottom” and the guitar-driven “Somewhere in the Middle.” The musical detours and multiple lead voices are what differentiate the High Hawks from others who work under the same banner.
