Due to popular demand, Gillian Welch and longtime musical partner David Rawlings have expanded their Acoustic Reckoning Tour. After previously adding on a leg of performances rooted in the Pacific Northwest, and rapidly selling out their initial two-night stay at Portland, Ore.’s Revolution Hall, scheduled for August 15 and 16, the group has added new appearances on either end, August 14 and 17.
Previously, Welch and Rawlings had unveiled a crop of dates that would take them to the aforementioned Rose City location on Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16, before heading to The Moore Theatre in Seattle on Wednesday, August 19, and Thursday, August 20. Widespread popularity and interest in the show have accounted for the added Oregon dates.
The aforementioned run pays homage to the Grateful Dead’s beloved 1981 double live album, Reckoning, with live acoustic renditions of select songs from the aforementioned collection and beyond. Speaking to her connection to the material, Welch told Relix, “I identify tremendously with where Robert Hunter was coming from. I think to some degree I’m coming from the same place, which is Beat language and freedom in all ways—freedom of action and freedom of thought—combined with all the weird Americana of old time and mountain and country and blues.” Read the interview here.
The expanded West Coast dates arrive after the successful launch of the touring concept earlier this spring.
