Wellesley, Mass.-bred jam-funk-fusion outfit Addison Groove Project will regroup for a one-off reunion show later this month. The ensemble, which formed when its members were still in high school in the 1990s, will come together for a performance at Cambridge, Mass.’s The Sinclair on Saturday, March 28. Last year, AGP reunited for performances at The Sinclair and New York’s Drom, their first concerts since a pair of reunion gigs in 2013. The group originally parted ways in 2007, a few years after bassist John Hall passed away from colorectal cancer shortly after his 25th birthday.
A note from the band reads, “John was an early example of what is now a widely reported national trend of colorectal cancer deaths in young adults. As they return to the stage, they are honoring his space in the most beautiful way possible to raise awareness about this scary trend and funds for Dana Farber’s Young Onset Colorectal Cancer Center. Last year’s reunion shows raised over $11K for the Center.”
Two guests will round out the upcoming show’s lineup. As she did last year, 14-year-old bass phenom, and daughter of AGP saxophonist Dave Adams, Ruby Golden Tiger will perform with the group and Trey Anastasio Band’s Jennifer Hartswick will sit in during the night. The trumpet player and vocalist went to college with AGP”s Ben Groppe and and AGP keyboardist Rob Marscher has performed in her solo band for years.
