Marco Benevento has signed to Big Crown records and announced the release on his debut 7”. The keyboardist has also confirmed that he working on a full-length LP for the label, which was co-founded by his friend, the Grammy-winning producer Leon Michels.

The A-side of the 7″, “Frizzante,” is described as “a high-energy, feel-good banger that finds Marco trading melodies with himself over a relentless groove.” The single’s flip side is “Turnadot,” a track that boasts Italian singer Marianne Mirage and a cinematic vibe described as somewhere “between Portishead and Serge Gainsbourg.”

Michels and Benevento first bonded when the latter musician relocated to the Woodstock, NY area from Brooklyn, NY and the duo started playing tennis together. Michels recruited Benevento for El Michels Affair’s 2017 set, Adult Themes, beginning a fruitful partnership that has led to Benevento appearing on several Big Crown projects. In addition to his solo work and post in Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Benevento has also recently collaborated Clairo, Kevin Morby and Freddie Gibbs, among others. Benevento’s previous solo LP, Let It Slide, arrived in 2019 via Royal Potato Family, the label he co-founded with Kevin Calabro.

Benevento’s next solo show is a February 28 piano gig at Gardiner, NY’s Full Circle, a new space operated by his cousin.
