Over the weekend, Leftover Salmon checked into The Sirzmark in Girdwood, Alaska, for a two-night stay, as part of their ongoing Winter and Spring Tour. During the Colorado ensemble’s concert on Saturday, Jan. 10, they paid homage to the late Bobby Weir with a complete set of covers, comprised of all Grateful Dead originals and associated covers.

Saturday night’s initial set was listed as “For Bob Weir”  in a post shared to the band’s social media platforms. As a homage to the late guitarist, the band began their set with “Black Peter,” before sliding into Bob Dylan’s “Simple Twist of Fate.” “Dark Hollow” was a particularly touching ode–not only did it hit on a feature of the Dead’s Reckoning album, but it also delineated a cover with significant association with Weir’s live arsenal.

Leftover Salmon turned up the tempo through the arrival of “Cumberland Blues.” They continued their deep dive into the Dead’s songbook, merging “Playing in the Band” into “New Speedway Boogie.” The frame continued with “When I Paint My Masterpiece,” “Mr. Charlie,” before “New Minglewood Blues” crossed with “Easy Wind.” Before the show’s break, the band closed the set after “I Know You Rider.”

The band broke away from the pattern they had engaged with during the concert’s latter half, only to step back into the Dead world during the night’s encore of “U.S. Blues.” After their time in The Last Frontier, Leftover Salmon returned to their home state, performing at Washington’s in Fort Collins, Colo., last night, Jan. 13. During their Tuesday night appearance in the Centennial State, Leftover Salmon offered another homage to Weir, reprising the Ace featured track, “Playing in the Band.” Rather than sticking to the script, the band delivered an eight-minute rendition, sans lyrics.

Weir played with Leftover Salmon during Blues Traveler’s annual 4th of July concert at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colo., for the National Anthem [along with Jackie Greene] and a take on “Standing on Shaky Ground” by The Temptations.
