Jon Fishman sat in with The Dude of Life Band at Albany, NY’s Empire Underground on Saturday night. The performance, which benefited Waterwheel Foundation, took place after Phish appeared at the nearby MVP Arena. Fishman’s daughter Ella, who performs under the name Cynthia Ruth, was the evening’s featured guest and sang on a few tunes.

The Phish drummer emerged during The Dude of Life Band’s set to help Ella and the group out on two of his daughter’s originals, “Carnival” and “Lesser Charge.” He then remained on stage for the “Crimes of the Mind,” the title-track from Phish’s 1994 studio album with The Dude of Life. (This weekend’s shows fell on the anniversary of the set’s release.) Fish also stayed for a version of the Phish song “Show of Life,” which The Dude of Life wrote with Trey Anastasio. The tune was dedicated to Phil Lesh, who passed away on Friday at the age of 84.

Ella and Jon Fishman joined The Dude of Life in Los Angeles last year for a similar late-night show. Fishman toured with The Due of the Life in the ’90s as well.
