Last week, The Brownstein Family Band took its jam-heavy show on the road for its first-ever solo headline tour. The group–featuring The Disco Biscuits’ Marc Brownstein and son Zach, plus Eggy’s Jake Brownstein and Dani Battat–brought its virtuosic hybrid sound to four Northeast venues in four days, giving engagements at The Homestead in Morristown, N.J., Ardmore Music Hall in Ardmore, Pa., Lark Hall in Albany, N.Y. and Park City Music Hall in Black Rock, Conn. from June 26-29. Among these appearances, fans were treated to extra special shows on the second and fourth stops, which featured a sit-in from the Biscuits’ Jon Gutwillig and a bust-out of “Jamillia” respectively.

On Thursday, June 27, The Brownstein Family Band brought the energy in Ardmore to an apex with a surprise appearance from Marc Brownstein’s Disco Biscuits bandmate Gutwillig. Stepping onstage for the final movement of the second set, the Biscuits guitarist performed three of the pioneering jamtronica quartet’s fan-favorite originals with the family band, issuing 2011’s “Portal To An Empty Head,” 2000’s “Confrontation,” and JJ Cale’s 1971 classic “After Midnight.”

During The Brownstein Family Band’s Saturday performance in Bridgeport, Conn., the ensemble shocked fans with a long-awaited bust out The Disco Biscuits’ 1998 Uncivilized Area standout “Jamillia,” which was last performed live by the foursome at 2016’s Camp Bisco. The group’s 2024 resurrection of “Jamillia” contained a lyric change, singing “I want to feel ya up, but only with your consent” in support of GrooveSafe’s mission to stop sexual harassment, assault, and unwanted touching at concerts and in other live entertainment spaces.

Since making its debut Nectar’s–Burlington, Vt.’s legendary jam haven–in January, the Brownstein Family Band has carved out a distinct sound and repertoire, comprising both Disco Biscuits and Eggy songs as well as covers. Fans who missed out on the group’s first tour can stream the Ardmore and Bridgeport shows via nugs.net.
