On Wednesday, March 13, Tedeschi Trucks Band closed out a two-night run at Richmond, Va.’s Altria Theater with a thrilling two-set performance. Among its typical array of time-honored covers, the renowned 12-piece ensemble also treated the audience to a debut cover of Van Morrison’s 1970 smash “Caravan,” which set off the evening’s second frame with a bang. This live debut followed a staging of Morrison’s “Into The Mystic” on night one, which marked the song’s second presentation after its launch at Boston’s TD Garden in September 2023.

Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off its Wednesday show with “Come See About Me,” a highlight from the band’s first album Revelator, before launching into a high-energy set with 10 covers, among 21 total offerings. At the mid-point of the first set, the band unleashed Wet Willie’s soulful Southern rock anthem “Keep On Smiling,” a tour staple since last year, followed by a longtime favorite cover of Blind Faith’s “Had to Cry Today,” which the band busted-out for the first time since October 2022.

“Caravan” opened the second set, marking the band’s second staging of a selection from Morrison’s beloved Moondance in as many days. This debut led into Junior Wells’ 1967 blues standard “Little By Little,” featured on Susan Tedeschi’s sophomore album Just Won’t Burn, which, in turn, set the stage for Aretha Franklin’s “It Ain’t Fair,” originally recorded alongside Duane Allman for 1970’s This Girl’s in Love with You and debuted by TTB earlier this year. Following “Bell Bottom Blues” and “Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?,” a pair of Derek and the Dominoes standards well-loved by the band since a shared debut at Lockn’ Festival 2019, the group closed out its second set with a cover of Jeff Beck’s “Beck’s Bolero.”

Tedeschi Trucks Band returned to the stage for a two-song encore, displaying two certified classic covers of Blind Willie McTell’s “Statesboro Blues” and Dr. John’s “I Walk on Guilded Splinters.” The group performed again in Durham, N.C. last night, May 14, and will stage a highly-anticipated hometown show at St. Augustine, Fla.’s St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Saturday, Mar. 16.
