Last night, Jon Batiste made a guest appearance at The Ed Sullivan Theater for a musical segment on The Late Show. The singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, composer, and television personality delivered an energetic performance of his Grammy-nominated track “Worship.”

Accompanied by a live band and a dynamic ensemble of backup singers, the musician infused the late-night stage with a jubilant and celebratory atmosphere with “Worship,” a highlight from his seventh studio LP, World Music Radio, which was released in August. Batiste used a beat machine tapping out samples while seamlessly unleashing euphonious piano runs as the song climbed to greater and greater heights, before welcoming a buoyant percussive section. The song further evolved with backup singers getting involved and joy overflowing with a brass section.

Notably, the appearance follows a captivating new ballad titled “It Never Went Away,” a poignant tribute to enduring love that was created for the documentary American Symphony. The film, directed by Matthew Heineman, chronicles a challenging year in Batiste and his partner Suleika Jaouad’s lives. American Symphony premiered at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this year and is available on Netflix now.
