Previously, A24 unveiled its plans to mark the 40th anniversary of the Talking Heads’ ground-breaking concert film, Stop Making Sense, by reissuing the newly restored 4K movie, accompanied by a theatrical run and deluxe soundtrack delivery. To mark the impending rerelease, Jerry Harrison joined Kyle Meredith to discuss the process in anticipation of the band’s first public reunion in 20 years, slated to occur in Q&A format next month at the Toronto International Film Festival.

During the conversation between Harrison and Meredith, the keyboardist and guitarist credited A24 with having a considerable role in the prosperity of the group’s ability to come together. In part, Harrison offered: “We own the film together, [so we had] to work together to make decisions. ‘Is A24 the right distributor for us, the right partner for us?’ We had to have conversations about that and this is something we did together. Then, A24 was like, ‘Here’s the offer–we’re going to get really behind this if you help us.’ And so it was like, ‘Obviously, we need to work together to make this a success.’”

Despite pre-existing friction, Harrison revealed, “I think it’s been somewhat of a healing experience for everybody.” He reinforced his prior comment by adding, ‘It’s like, ‘Yeah, we actually can work together and do this.’ And this is something we’re all proud of. The conflicts that people have spent a lot of time talking about, they still can be looked up. It’s not like the feelings that made people say various things are totally gone or anything like that, but it’s sort of like they’ve been voiced.”

Talking Heads members David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz and Harrison will come together for a live Q&A to mark the 40th anniversary of their celebrated concert film, Stop Making Sense, which is set to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, Sept. 11. The forthcoming panel will be the first public appearance by the group in over 20 years.
