Shane Hawkins, son of late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, joined his father’s cover band, Chevy Metal, during a series of shows on July 27 and 29 at Gold Pacific Studios in Newport Beach, Calif., and The Canyon in Agoura Hills, Calif., respectively. During the performances, the young musician reprised his dad’s role behind the kit, adding a beat during takes on songs by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and more.

Notably, Taylor Hawkins put together Chevy Metal in 2013 and frequently performed with that unit of players until his sudden passing in March 2022. The latest sit-ins featuring Shane were not the young artist’s first. Last year, he joined the act during a tribute concert in honor of his dad. In addition, Shane has played with the Foo Fighters, most recently joining in during their headlining appearance at Boston Calling.

During the recent Golden State gigs, Shane poured into covers by Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Mötley Crüe, Thin Lizzy and The Police. During the Chevy Metal show in Agoura Hills, Calif., the band was joined by surprise guest Sebastian Bach and other artists such as Poison’s Rikki Rockett, The Car’s Elliot Easton, and fellow drummer Kenny Aronoff.
