On Monday, July 24, Neil Young closed his 15-show Coastal Tour at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys in Stateline, Nev. During the concert, the musician busted out “Tonight’s The Night” for the first time since Oct. 1, 2018, just beyond the halfway point of the main frame.

During the recently completed run, Young graced multiple venues in California, Oregon, and Washington before arriving in Nevada earlier this week and cutting into a memorable set of songs, including the fan favorite, Buffalo Springfield cut “On the Way Home,” paired alongside less frequented run throughs such as “Vampire Blues,” “Throw Your Hatred Down” and “When I Hold You In My Arms.”

The aforementioned songs came before the evening’s bust out. Young moved to the piano and tapped the keys until the melody became fully realized, paired with the musician’s iconic “Tonight’s The Night” lyrics. While “Tonight’s the Night” was a popular pick on his past tours, the number has been much more of a rarity in recent years. The 1975 number was played a handful of times on his 2018-2019 Solo Tour. Prior it had not made a setlist appearance since 2009.

After the night’s special moment, Young closed out his frame with “Mother Earth (Natural Anthem), the Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young anti-Vietnam favorite, “Ohio,” followed by “Don’t Forget Love” and a set ending “Heart of Gold.” During the first selection of encores, Young started with the classic “Comes a Time” before moving into more recent material with “Love Earth.” He added Ian & Sylvia’s “Four Strong Winds” in before returning for one final song, which functioned as the second encore: the title track from the 2020 LP, Homegrown
