Cindy Blackman Santana has announced that she will embark on a handful of live festival appearances this June. The esteemed drummer will be joined by a rotating cast of bandmates and special guests for this early-summer run.
Blackman Santana will kick things off on June 11, with a set at Blue Note Napa in Napa, Calif. There, she will be joined onstage by saxophonist Emilio Modeste, keyboardist Zaccai Curtis and bassist Felix Pastorious.
Then, on June 14, the quartet will head down to The Golden City for an appearance at the San Francisco Jazz Festival. Their set will see guitar accompaniment from David Gilmore and guest support from saxophonist Ravi Coltrane. The occasion will also boast a special tribute to the iconic jazz drummer Tony Williams, with support from John Medeski on organ and Vernon Reid on guitar.
On June 19, Blackman Santana, Pasorious and Gilmore will take the stage in Maryland for one night at the Bethesda Blues and Jazz Supper Club. Finally, on June 24, the trio will link back up with Coltrane for a set at the Saratoga Jazz Festival in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
