This week a federal judge in Manhattan handed down a ruling that establishes higher royalty rates for songwriters, composers and publishers when music is performed live. The court order has sparked a number of artists to mount flash tours, dovetailing with fan interest in hearing them play beloved albums from their back catalog. As a result, Vulfpeck had finally agreed to perform their 2017 album Sleepify in its entirety.

To the delight of fans, the group has announced an upcoming series of dates in which Vulfpeck will deliver the ten tracks from Sleepify in all five minutes and sixteen seconds of silent glory. These shows will open with the single “Z” and include such deep cuts as “Zzzzzz” and “Zzzzzzz.” While some have harbored doubts as to whether a track such as “Zzzzzzzzz” can be translated into the live setting, the band purportedly has been fine-tuning the selection with the help of sound technicians and the folks who created Sleep Number adjustable beds (MyPillow founder Mike Lindell also offered advice but his claims were deemed ill-founded.)

The Sleepify Tour will hit childcare centers and monasteries nationwide, with a residency to follow at Orfield Laboratories’ anechoic chamber. Select performances will be paired with a documentary on the making of the album, titled Soporific. The film has been hailed as “three and a half minutes of pure, unaltered hypnagogia.” Screenings will be preceded by a warning that the movie may prove disturbing to those afflicted by hyperactivity disorders.
