Phish’s annual Mexican destination event at Cancun, Quintana Roo’s Moon Palace continued last night. The show kicked off with a bust out of Trey Anastasio’s early collaboration with The Dude of Life, “Dinner and a Movie.” Despite providing the title for Phish’s archival foodie video series throughout the pandemic–and offering an increased number of live streams since returning to the road–Phish had not performed the tune since Aug. 4, 2017, during their Baker’s Dozen run at New York’s Madison Square Garden. From there, the group moved into “Loving Cup,” “A Wave of Hope,” “Stash,” “Heavy Things” and a segue from “555” into the revived “Axilla (Part II)” and “Joy.” A stretched out “Split Open and Melt” closed the set.

The group’s second set commenced with the instrumental rocker “First Tube.” Then, Phish offered the geographically appropriate “Waves,” which segued into an equally thematic “Ruby Waves.” A standalone “Shade,” and an extended, unfinished “Chalk Dust Torture” that faded into “Bathtub Gin” closed the set.

The night then came to a close with a pairing of high-energy numbers “Golgi Apparatus” and “Character Zero.” Phish will return to Moon Palace today.
