Bob Weir & Wolf Bros kicked off their Halloween weekend with a performance at Las Vegas’ The Theater at Virgin Hotels last night. The evening included several Wolf Bros debuts as well as a few nods to some previous shows on the group’s tour. During the ensemble’s first set, Wolf Bros and their accompanying Wolf Pack completed the “Dark Star” they started in Los Angeles on October 25. Then, the musicians moved into “Terrapin Transit,” “At a Siding,” “Terrapin Flyer” and a “Terrapin” refrain, completing the “Terrapin Suite” they started in San Diego on October 26

During Wolf Bros’ second set, the group debuted their take on “Viola Lee Blues,” the Noah Lewis tune the Dead recorded for their self-titled 1967 debut. At the end of their second set, Wolf Brothers introduced their version of Chuck Berry’s “Around And Around,” the early rock-and-roll tune the Dead played regularly from 1970-1995 as well as in several post-Jerry Garcia outfits. Last night marked the first time Weir has performed the since since a RatDog gig on March 10, 2014.

The evening’s encore, Bob Dylan’s “Knocking on Heaven’s Door,” had not been played by Wolf Bros since February 29, 2020 and was likely a nod to another ’50s rock-and-roll pioneer, Jerry Lee Lewis, who passed away earlier in the day.

Wolf Brothers return to Las Vegas this evening.
