Today, Ashville, N.C.-based jamband Papadosio returned with an 8-bit inspired single titled “Zoom Out.” The track follows “Not Just A Word,” which marked the quintet’s first release in two years and first with lyrics since 2018’s Content Coma.

On “Zoom Out,” Papadosio producer, guitarist, and vocalist Anthony Thogmartin doubles down on sharing the vocal elements of the ensemble’s sound. After just a few seconds of music that could easily accompany retro-game hits like Super Metroid or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Thogmartin begins to muse on the nature of existence on the planet from the microscopic to his own and beyond. Throughout the nearly four-and-a-half-minute song, Thogmartin is accompanied and lifted by Mike Healy’s prog-rock rhythm and synths from Sam and Billy Brouse.

“​​It has always fascinated me how so much is occurring simultaneously on this planet,” Thogmartin said in a statement. “Each one of our unique perspectives are vastly smaller in scope than the sum total of things that can be witnessed. The magnitude of activity on earth is staggering, but it is paradoxically eclipsed by the fact that we all exist on an obscure small planet on the edge of an obscure galaxy.”

The track arrives as the ensemble gets ready for two nights of celebrating their beloved 2012 LP  T.E.T.I.O.S. at the Masonic Auditorium in Cleveland on Nov. 25 and 26.
