Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros have confirmed their new album, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros: Live in Colorado: Vol. 2, due on Oct. 7 via Jack White’s Third Man Records. Coupled with today’s announcement is the release of the first track off the forthcoming live album, a take on the Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia penned “Ripple” and its adjoining music video, recorded live in The Centennial State.

Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros: Live in Colorado: Vol. 2 is the follow-up to the ensemble’s debut release, which dropped on Feb. 18. Like the band’s initial 2022 eight-track, Vol. 2 presents listeners with a series of songs that were performed in front of a live audience during the band’s past concerts at the esteemed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., on June 8 and 9, 2021, and Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail, Colo., on June 11 and 12.

The new album documents the group’s first performances in front of a live audience after the pandemic-induced hiatus brought touring to a year-long grinding halt. However, the energy of the musicians’ return to the stage is at an all-time high on their new collection of music, which sees the troupe take on a number of beloved tunes.

Merle Haggard’s classic number, “Mama Tried,” kicks off the new album, and the Hunter-written “Eyes of the World” flows into Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” generating a segued second track. The third number on the new album is an illustriously jammed-out “Terrapin Station Suite,” followed by Weir’s original “The Other One.” Then, the album takes a sweet and ponderous dip on the Grateful Dead staple “Brokedown Palace.” The final two tracks on the LP feature “Days Between” and today’s release, “Ripple.”

In addition to the ensemble’s namesake, Weir is joined by Don Was, Jay Lane and Jeff Chimenti on the new record, which also sees accompaniment by Greg Leisz on pedal steel and The Wolf Pack: Alex Kelly, Brian Switzer, Adam Theis, Mads Tolling and Sheldon Brown. Weir offered some thoughts via press release, “This was out first quick tour with The Wolfpack. There’s a rawness to it that we’ll probably never get back again…”

In late July, Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros announced they would head out on a 13-city tour this fall, beginning on Sept. 30, at the Palace Theatre in Waterbury, Conn. Additionally the tour will see highly anticipated stops in San Francisco, when Weir celebrates his 75th birthday on stage at The Warfield on Oct. 14 through 16. Moreover, the group will also perform their rescheduled stint at Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center Concert Hall from Oct. 5 till 9, alongside the National Symphony Orchestra.
