The Travelin’ McCourys & Sierra Hull played at The Brooklyn Bowl Nashville last night, Sunday, July 2. The family band is co-lead by Del McCoury’s sons, Ronnie, who plays mandolin and banjoist, Rob. Alan Bartram plays standing bass, and Jason Cater brings the fiddle into the mix, In most cases, Cody Kilby plays lead guitar for The Travelin’ McCourys, but last night was different.
Del McCoury himself, a man credited as one of the greatest bluegrass singers and guitarists, joined them on stage. Del McCoury didn’t come alone though. The Brooklyn Bowl also welcomed one of the hottest names in the live music scene to play along with the legend and his family – Billy Strings.
The stage was packed with talent and harmonies but somehow they made room for one more. Sierra Hull played with the Travelin’ McCourys and brought along with her the skill that only someone who adorned the stage of the Grand Ol’ Opery at eleven-years-old could. Now an wildly accomplished musican she finessed the mandolin on the stage of The Brooklyn Bowl Nashville, with the best of the best.
This assemblly of bluegrass legends, is a testimate of what is to come for Nashvilles’ newst venue.
