Ross James will bring his ‘Gotta Serve Somebody’ project to The Relix Channel on Twitch on Thursday, Apr. 29 at 9 p.m. MT/11 p.m. ET. The show is a celebration of the music of Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead.
James will be joined by Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman and Andy Thorn, as well as The Motet’s Garrett Sayers and Circles Around the Sun’s Mark Levy. The show will take place at Knew Conscious in Denver, Colo.
In February of 2020, James performed a ‘Gotta Serve Somebody’ show at the Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg, N.Y. Prior to the show, he spoke with Jambands.com about the project.
“The openness to exploration, once I really got that and was comfortable with that, you realize that it’s this never-ending thing,” he said, reflecting on his love of improvisational music. “It’s just constantly growing and changing. Never having to play a song the same way is something that has always interested me.
“And that’s something that I love about the Dylan side of this too because that’s something that he’s done over the years, just reinvented arrangements of tunes,” James continued. “That’s something that resonates with me in a huge way. There have been so many moments where a lyric from one of these tunes that I’ve heard a million times hits me like a freight train.”
