Tay Zonday, the viral video star known for the 2007 video/song “Chocolate Rain,” covered Phish’s “Ass Handed” in a video on Cameo that was procured by Jambase (shared with them by Will Broen).
Prior to performing the cover, Zonday delivered a brief preamble. “Chocolate Rain” is a song that has a lot to do with history, and Phish covered it, and they also have a song called “Ass Handed” which, I presume, has a lot to do about history because some Americans were at one point promised 40 acres and a mule and that never exactly happened,” Zonday said. “So clearly, this song speaks to that historical moment. How does it go?”
Speaking of “Chocolate Rain,” Phish performed a lighthearted, a cappella cover of the song to open their July 28, 2017 concert at Madison Square Garden (night six of the Baker’s Dozen).
