D’Angelico has debuted a new Bob Weir signature guitar, the “Premier Bob Weir Bedford,” marking the brand’s first-ever solid-body signature model.
According to its official description, the guitar boasts itself as a “tonal powerhouse” with “two Seymour Duncan Designed P-90s with a SC-101 single-coil nestled in the middle, plus a six-point tremolo.”
“It really has more variety of tones than any guitar I can think of,” Weir said in a press statement. “And the more sounds the instrument has, the more colors you have on your palette.”
In other Weir-related news, he and the Wolf Bros will headline the 2020 Jackson Hole Rendezvous from March 26-28 in Wyoming.

January 16, 2020 at 3:35 pmI agree. His tone on the 335 he played in the early 70s was incredible and so well suited for the richness of his chord voicings. In general, I think the tones of the guitarist/bassist in the Dead all got progressively worse as they went deeper and deeper into customization in the 80s and beyond. As someone who wasn’t alive to see them prior to the Brent era, I was sorry to have missed the earlier tones.

January 14, 2020 at 10:29 pmI’m sure it’s a fine instrument, however regardless of whatever guitar Weir has used over the last 40+ years, particularly with the addition of special effects he’s used, and at times struggled with, the transition from what I so fondly recalled, took on a thin, tinny, and often grating sound; a disturbingly dramatic change from the richly textured tones I so fondly remember during the early 70s – for example, as heard on Grateful Dead’s “Skull and Roses” live LP, circa 1971. Still miss it.
