Phish’s second night of fall tour saw the quartet get increasingly comfortable at Providence, RI’s Dunkin Donuts Center, balancing a song-heavy set one with an improv-laden set two, as well as a few nods to the prior evening’s “Plasma” teases.
Kasvot Växt’s “Turtle in the Clouds” kicked things off, but it was the pairing of “Punch You in the Eye” with a slow “Llama” that really got the Saturday-night crowd excited.
Later in the first half, after Jon Fishman serenaded the audience on the vacuum, “Plasma” eventually emerged out of the depths of a “Stash” jam, drawing a thematic connection to the band’s Friday-night gig. From there, the band found their way into “Golgi Apparatus” to close the set with plenty of Phish-style silliness.
A jammed-through second set saw an opening “Bathtub Gin” bleed into an unfinished “Alaska.”
The always-contemplative “What’s the Use?” followed, as did “Piper”> “Golden Age” and yet another “Plasma Reprise” before an elated “Harry Hood.”
Phish treated their hardcore fans to some of their more aggressive originals for their final Providence encore, starting with “Big Black Furry Creature from Mars” and moving into the always-eerie “Kung.”
“Wombat” lightened things up before Phish dug into “Possum” and one last “Plasma Reprise” for good measure.
