The Mayor of Burlington, VT, Miro Weinberger, has released an official proclamation that dubs tomorrow, Sept. 14, 2019, Nectar Rorris Day.

Rorris, who owned and operated Burlington’s iconic Nectar’s restaurant and music venue starting in 1975 until he turned over the reins in 2002, also just celebrated his 80th birthday. Rorris, a native of Greece, has been intimately involved with various aspects of the Burlington community for decades.

The mayor’s proclamation, which can be seen below, notes Rorris’s contributions to his adopted hometown over the years, including in a clause that reads, “Whereas, Nectar played a major role in a varied and rich music scene by always opening 7 days a week and asking a single band to play 4 sets per night, which created an accomplished music scene, and provided the venue for the band Phish to build their following and launch Vermont’s most famous rock band of all times.” The following paragraph also notes that Grace Potter’s career, too, began in earnest at Nectar’s.
