Encompassing shows for 1987, 1989 and 1991, the new Grateful Dead Giants Stadium box set will be available on Sept. 27, 2019.
To get Deadheads excited for the comprehensive release, the band has released a new pro-shot video of “Uncle John’s Band” from 6/17/91, “one of only two shows in the Grateful Dead’s archive recorded to 48-track analog tape, providing spectacular and unprecedented audio quality.”
Said GD archivist legacy manager David Lemieux of this particular “Uncle John’s Band, “Usually a second set centerpiece, this rendition from Giants Stadium 6/17/91 finds the band locked into one of the Dead’s most beloved melodies, all seven of the band members playing spectacularly well, completely focused and in the moment. One of the many highlights of one of the best shows the Dead ever played, this ‘Uncle John’s Band’ emerges from another Workingman’s Dead standout (‘New Speedway Boogie’) and segues into the holy grail of Dead songs, ‘Dark Star.’”
The full roster of show audio for the new box set include 7/12/87, 7/9/89, 7/10/89, 6/16/91 and 6/17/91, with an extra full-show video of 6/17/91. A limited edition of 10,000 will be released. It will be available in both CD/Blu-Ray and CD/DVD formats, as well as digital.

August 3, 2019 at 1:33 pmC’mon man this is what you come up with for a boxed set? All this Giant stadium music and the most important part of it is missing. Where is Dylan’s set? 6/17/91 one of the best shows ever, did I read that right? This is just a waste of time. There has to be better choices made, for these picks. I think Betty Cantor said it the best, David Lemeoux didn’t start seeing the Band till ‘89 with the best years already passed, how is he making the choices? WSMFP!

August 3, 2019 at 10:34 amGrateful Dead did not play live on 3/30/91. Caps Center shows (4) were played from from March 17 through to March 21, 1991.

August 2, 2019 at 10:22 pmCourtney is the epitome of why a lot of bands don’t bother to improve and release. What a freeloading worthless douchbag loser. I got the tapes of 6/17/91 around 10/91 and will gladly buy these LPs. Might get the cd-bluray package later. Dont have any boxes post Brent yet and this was always a great show. Bruce overshadowes any Vince weakness like many 1991 shows. 3/30/91 Cap Centre was the best.

August 2, 2019 at 2:29 pmOrrr, instead of putting more obsolete CD’s in you attic, you can just go listen to these shows on the Archives for free. Orrrrrr, just go through your attic because you probably already have this stuff! #CorporateGreed

August 2, 2019 at 1:21 pmBut having Hornsby mitigated that, Frank. This is an amazing show, and seeing and hearing it on the big screen last night was incredible ! Best Meet Up At the Movies in a long time !

August 2, 2019 at 5:22 pmSo Agree! Not a big Vince fan, but he’s aight, has his moments and THAT 48 TRACK AUDIO WAS BONKERS LAST NIGHT!!! Sidenote; Hornsby finally starts to seem comfortable, although he still has some funny faces, as opposed to the “deer in headlights” look he usually had all thru the ’90 shows!
