Phil Lesh and The Terrapin Family Band wrapped up their run of Northwest tour dates on Sunday night with a final stop at the Showbox in Seattle, and the group offered a special cover to end the second set, when they combined a Nirvana tune with Grateful Dead lyrics.
The first set opened up with “Me & My Uncle” and featured covers of Jimi Hendrix’s “The Wind Cries Mary” and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Teach Your Children,” and set two followed up with a cover of The Band’s “Up On Cripple Creek” and Grateful Dead staples like the “Terrapin Suite” and “Scarlet Begonias.” To close out the set, Jason Crosby led the way on vocals and guitar on Nirvana’s “Lithium,” fitting in the verse lyrics to the Dead’s “Friend of the Devil” before the rest of the band and the crowd joined in on the songs regular choruses.
See last night’s full setlist below, along with fan-shot video of the Nirvana cover and full videos of both sets (h/t JamBase). This Thursday, Feb. 7, members of The Terrapin Family Band will head to Brooklyn Bowl for a tribute to the musical partnership Bob Weir and John Perry Barlow.
