On the evening of Thursday, Jan. 3, Tedeschi Trucks Band shared a message on social media detailing how their own Kofi Burbridge has encountered a health “setback” and underwent surgery last week to remedy a persistent heart issue.

“The doctors feel good about his recent progress and we’re hoping he’ll be out of the hospital soon, but he’ll need some time for recovery,” the band wrote.

In June 2017, the multi-instrumentalist had a sudden heart attack and was rushed into emergency surgery. After Los Angeles-based keyboardist Carey Frank filled in for Burbridge for a few months, he returned to the stage in October 2017.

TTB are set to kick off their Winter Tour on Jan. 17 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They have not announced whether Burbridge will join them or not. This story is still developing.

TTB family: unfortunately Kofi Burbridge has suffered a recent setback related to his surgery in 2017 and had to undergo a follow-up procedure last week. The doctors feel good about his recent progress and we’re hoping he’ll be out of the hospital soon, but he’ll need some time for recovery. TTB is fortunate to have a talented circle of friends/family to call on when a bandmate is in need, and renowned keyboardist Gabe Dixon made himself available to cover for Kofi while he gets better. We appreciate everyone’s best wishes for Kofi and we’re all looking forward to his healthy recovery and return to the stage where he belongs.
