Southern rocker Marcus King led his band in a star-studded single set in Macon, Ga. last night, welcoming guests like Widespread Panic’s Duane Trucks, Blackberry Smoke’s Charlie Starr, Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Kebbi Williams and more.

The band started things off with their own “Where I’m Headed,” off their 2018 release Carolina Confessions.

From there, the sextet dug into a massive “Sharry Barry”> “Mountain Jam”> “25 Or 6 To 4”> “I’ll Stay”> “Gloomy Sunday”> “Sharry Barry”> “Welcome ‘Round Here” segment, giving a nod to the Allman Brothers long history the city of Macon.

Later, Allman descendant/Widespread Panic drummer Duane Trucks jumped onstage for an extended cover of WSP favorite “Red Hot Mama.”

As the band’s set drew to a close, they covered gospel ballad “Lift Every Voice & Sing” and segued into their own “Confessions.” Tedeschi Trucks Band saxophonist Kebbi Williams added his horn to the rollicking ’60s composition “Compared To What,” and Blackberry Smoke’s Charlie Starr as well as guitarist Benjo Shanks sat in a set-closing cover of The Black Crowes’ “Wiser Time.”

Chris Turpin and Stephanie Jean of opening act IDA MAE joined in for the tw0-part encore of Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home”and Marcus King Band’s original “Goodbye Carolina.”

The Marcus King Band are set to play a New Year’s run at Port Chester, NY’s Capitol Theatre with As The Crow Flies (also featuring King). Their next batch of headlining tour dates will begin in January 2019.
