Marcus Mumford and Taylor Goldsmith both sat in with My Morning Jacket at the band’s concert at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London, England, this past Tuesday.
Mumford is a UK resident and Goldsmith’s band, Dawes, has been opening for MMJ on their current tour, creating the perfect opportunity for a New Basement Tapes reunion. Jacket singer Jim James, along with Mumford and Goldsmith, took part in the Bob Dylan-inspired group project that culminated in Lost On The River, a collection of songs written a number of artists who took old Dylan lyrics and put them to original music.
One of James’ writing contributions to the record was “Down On The Bottom,” on which he also sang. On Tuesday, Mumford and Goldsmith joined James’ and his band on stage for an encore rendition of the tune, which was the first track of the New Basement Tapes album.
