Back in 2012, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival expanded to two consecutive weekends with the same group of artists. The event continues to sell out even as some longtime fans decry that it has “sold out,” lamenting the fact that Coachella has “gone Hollywood.” In response, Coachella has announced its commitment to build community by adopting an approach from the NBC program Community. Starting next year, Coachella’s new slogan will be “Six weekends and a movie,” as the event will take place on a half-dozen successive Saturdays, followed by a compilation film. Chevy Chase is expected to emcee the first four weeks before departing amid creative differences and recrimination. Childish Gambino will leave early in weekend five so that his alter ego actor Danny Glover can pursue some opportunities in dinner theater. In response to rumors that the ensuing Coachella movie may reboot and retrofit continuity, spokesman Abed Nadir offers a pithy “Cool cool cool.”
