The 2012 New York Guitar Festival will take place at Merkin Concert Hall in early January. Over a number of evenings, guitarists will deliver live original scores for silent comedies by Buster Keaton. On January 10, Dan Zanes will provide music for the classic Steamboat Bill, Jr. Two nights later Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo will supply a score to Cops while Kaki King will perform to The Scarecrow. Keller Williams will step up on January 17 for One Week, “a short comedy about newlyweds who receive a build-it-yourself house that can supposedly be built in one week.” Then on January 19, it’s another Keaton classic, Go West with music from Califone. Additional performers will be announced over the coming weeks.
