Following up on our story from earlier today, the Georgia Theatre staff has announced, ‘It is with great emotion that we sadly report the Georgia Theatre burned down this morning. There are a lot more questions than answers right now and we will do our best to keep the public informed as we learn more. We appreciate all of the support that the great folks of Athens have provided and the additional messages received from wonderful patrons from around the world.’
Perpetual Groove had been slated to appear at the venue this evening and tomorrow. Instead, the group will now perform one Athens gig on Saturday at the Classic Center, which will serve as a benefit to assist the venue’s employees. The band explains, ‘The Georgia Theatre has been a mainstay in the music scene in the Southeast for years and years and everyone that has worked in that building is a close personal friend to not just Perpetual Groove but music lovers everywhere. Anything you can
will help. Thank you so much…..’
