News of a Grateful Dead press conference initially yielded rumors that its surviving members might come together for a tour. However, the actual announcement covered a more long-range project. The band has confirmed that it will donate its business archives to the McHenry Library at University of California at Santa Cruz. The material is said to include photos, posters, letters, ticket stubs, passes, backdrops and other materials. The collection does not, however, include the group’s recording vault. In turn, UCSC reportedly will not only offer these materials to scholars but will create a room entitled Dead Central, where they will be accessible to the public.
